The versatile cable and coil heater can be formed to a variety of shapes. Cable heaters are small diameter, high-performance units, fully annealed and readily bent to a multitude of configurations.

The heater can be formed into a compact, coiled nozzle heater supplying a full 360º of heat with optional distributed wattage. A straight cable heater can snake through an equipment application. Flat spiral configurations can be used in high-tech manufacturing while a star wound cable can be used for air and gas heating.

Cable and Coil heaters are high performance mini tubular heaters that have small rectangular, square or round cross sections that are flexible and can acquire different shapes and configurations.
The sheath material of standard cable heaters is stainless 304; their heating core is coiled or straight solid Nickel Chrome wire. Cable heaters can transmit up to 35 W/in2 heating capacity and can attain up to 15000F surface temperature.

Cartridge heaters can withstand tough industrial usage; they can transmit up to 200 watts/in² heating capacity and are able to attain up to 1500°F sheath temperature. In order to facilitate installation and heat transmission, cartridge heaters are made 0.004 inches less than the nominal size of the receptacle hole, with a tolerance of +/- 0.002 in. Standard Bucan cartridge heaters are supplied with electrical leads that are connected internally within a 3/8 inch cold section. In excessively hot applications, the length of this cold section could be increased.Cartridge heaters can be dual-voltage, three-phase, and/or supplied with a ground terminal. With ten different termination styles, mounting attachments and various optional features, Bucan high-density cartridge heaters are widely used in numerous high temperature industrial applications.

Tutco Standard Cartridge heaters are designedfor lower temperature use (typically 40 watts per square inch, depending on the application). The Standard Cartridge Heater is made to withstand a sheath temperature of up to 1000 °F (538 °C), internally up to 1200 °F (649 °C), and features a stainless steel sheath for resistance to oxidation. High-purity magnesium oxide (MgO) fills any space around the resistor wire in order to optimize heat transfer and increase the life of the heater.  The ruggedly constructed, high watt density Hi-Temp Cartridge heaters provide excellent heat transfer efficiency, high operating temperature (typically 90 to 95 watts per square inch, depending on the application) and long life. The Hi-Temp Cartridge is made to withstand a sheath temperature of up to 1400 °F (760 °C), internally up to 1600 °F (871 °C). Its swaged construction allows for minimal air gaps, providing superior heat transfer and resistance to impact and vibration.

Ceramic fiber heaters offer some of the highest temperature heating element capabilities in the Watlow family of heaters. Heating units constructed of ceramic fiber insulation isolate the heating chamber from the outside. Ceramic fiber heaters are extremely low mass, high insulation value units with self-supported heating elements. Many applications can benefit from the convenience of the heating element and insulation combined into one package. Its lightweight, low-density properties make it ideally suited for high temperature applications requiring low thermal mass.

Ceramic heaters are medium-to-high temperature heaters that can deliver up to 1200°F. The nickel-chrome heating cores of these durable heaters are placed inside interlocking ceramic tiles that are assembled like a brick wall. A ceramic fiber insulating mat and a stainless steel jacket cover this assembly. This construction makes ceramic heaters flexible and highly energy efficient. An energized ceramic heater that operates at 1200°F internally will have around 400°F on its outside shell. Ceramic heaters consume 20 % less energy than band heaters that are not insulated.

An additional advantage of Ceramic heaters is that they transfer heat through conduction and radiation. This makes their tightness on barrels less critical; thus they are less prone to thermal expansion problems.

Used in a range of applications from industrial to engineering, ceramic infrared elements and ceramic infrared emitters ( IR heat emitter ) are efficient, long- lasting ceramic infrared heaters. Providing long wave infrared radiation these robust ceramic infrared heating elements have a wide array of uses including in thermoforming heaters, packaging, outdoor heaters and saunas in leisure centers. The ceramic heater is the most efficient infrared emitters on the market because it operates best between the temperature range of 300 to 700 degrees celsius (575- 1292 degrees fahrenheit) producing infrared wave lengths in the 2- 10 micron range.  It is found that many materials and plastics absorb infrared best in this range.

Circulation heaters provide a solution for heating liquid or gas in a complete compact unit. This package may contain the heater, temperature sensor, control and vessel with inlet and outlet connections. Included in the numerous applications for circulation heaters are heating water, transfer oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, different gases and, hot forced air. Depending on the application the heating elements are made from copper, steel, incoloy. Special applications may require other materials for the heater elements. In critical applications where sheath or element temperature can not exceed a set temperature an over temperature thermocouple may be attached to the heater element.. Heater size can range from 100 watts up to a megawatt.

Circulation heaters are highly efficient heating cells designed to heat liquids and gases as they flow through a pipe body. These units are 100% energy efficient, compact, and easy to install. They offer primary heating or act as a backup/start up heating source to natural or forced circulation systems.

The core of a circulation heater is a screw plug immersion heater or a flanged immersion heater that is installed into a pipe vessel. The vessel is thermally insulated and a stainless steel or rust proof painted outside metallic jacket protects the insulating material. The vessel is connected to a system through inlet and outlet NPT threaded fittings or flange connections.

Circulation heaters consist of either a screwplug or flange immersion heater mounted in a pipe vessel. These complete units are designed to heat flowing liquids or gases. Ideal for side-arm or in-line applications, the medium being heated is directed past the GLO-QUARTZ® heating elements allowing for quick response, even heat distribution and accurate process temperature control. Each assembly is equipped with: heating elements, insulated pipe vessel, terminal enclosure, mounting blocks, inlet/outlet connections, and drain plug. Excellent heat transfer results from the heater's thin design and direct bonding to an application. Flexible heaters provide fast heat-up and cool-down rates, uniform heat distribution and high watt densities.

Silicone rubber heaters are flexible and lightweight heaters that Silicone Rubber Heatercan operate up to 450°F. Because of their thin construction, the uniform heating pattern of its heating circuit and the closeness of this circuit to the surface of an application, the heat transfer from a silicone rubber heater is rapid and uniform. Despite being thin and flexible, silicone rubber heaters are rugged and maintain dimensional stability, due to the fiberglass grid that reinforces the silicone sheets that encapsulate the heating elements of these heaters. Silicone rubber heaters are moisture and chemical resistant and can adhere to flat or curved surfaces and can be factory vulcanized to metallic surfaces. These heaters can accommodate holes and cut-outs; they can be built with thermostats, thermocouples, RTDs or thermal fuses. Silicone rubber heaters can have different types of fasteners, and can be bonded to a surface by pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) or room temperature vulcanizing paste (RTV).

For all acid solutions except those containing hydrofluoric or fluorides Type GN: Standard watt density, 40 watts/sq. inch - for Mild acids. Type N: Low watt density, 20 watts/sq. inch - for Heat sensitive or heavy acid solutions such as nickel plating, electropolishing or phosphoric acid. NOT recommended for alkaline or caustic solutions.
All type GN and N quartz heaters are supplied with a preset over-temperature switch encased in a FEP tube that runs vertically along the outside of the quartz tube. This switch should be used with a temperature control and a separate liquid level control system.
Solution should be kept 2” above the heated length at all times. Maximum solution operation temperature is 200ºF. For higher operating temperatures, consult factory for specially designed heaters. Units can be ordered in different combinations.

Providing medium wave infrared radiation, quartz infrared heating elements are used and preferred in industrial applications where a more rapid heater response is required. At Weco we supply a wide range of standard quartz elements including Ceramicx FQE (full quartz element), Ceramicx half quartz element, Ceramicx quarter quartz element and square elements. We also supply pillared quartz elements such as Ceramicx pillared full quartz element and half elements (Ceramicx PHQE) to our customers.
They are also particularly effective where zone controlled heating is required. With a broad emission spectrum from around 1.4 to 8 microns, they are shorter in wavelength than ceramic elements and pillared quartz elements are found to have similar mounting fixtures as ceramic elements allowing easy replacement if needed.

Strip heaters are just as the name indicates. A flat metal heater whose width and length are manufactured to different sizes, depending on the application. They can also be categorized by the mechanism of heat transfer, such as radiant strip heaters. Sheath material can be composed of zinc-coated steel or stainless steel with mica or mineral insulated material used as the insulating material between the sheath and the heating core. Incoming voltage termination can be from terminal studs to armored covered cable, depending on the application. Watt density may be up to 100 watts /sq. in. with sheath temperatures reaching 1400 degrees F.(760 degrees C.). One style of strip heaters allows the addition of metal fins to be added to the sheath, which makes the heater adaptable for forced air applications. Applications range from thermoforming, hot plates and zinc pots.

Mica insulated strip heaters are economical heat sources, suitable for providing heat to flat surfaces. The sheath temperature is limited to 900°F. Maximum allowable watt densities with respect to application temperatures are shown in the diagram. However, 20 Watts/in² is a safe value.

In order to avoid thermal expansion issues that detach mica strip heaters from the surfaces that they are applied to, strip heaters can be made to include several mounting holes or pressure plates that provide rigidity and improve heat transfer uniformity as well.

Mica insulated strip heaters are available in many electrical termination styles, and within certain design limitations can accommodate holes and cut-outs.

Industrial tubular heaters are highly adaptable to most applications where electrical heating is required. They can be used in their straight form or bent into various shapes. Tubular heaters can be used in free air, clamped to a surface, placed inside a groove or cast into metal. Flange immersion heaters are typically used to heat liquids, or gasses in tanks and pressure vessels. The tubular components are brazed or welded to a flange piece. This tubular variation is ideal for applications that require higher kilowatts.

The Hairpin immersion heater is a single bend heater that is filled with compacted MgO insulation.

Tubular Screw Plug heaters are hairpin bent, and welded or brazed into the screw plug - depending on the element sheath and plug compatibility of material used. And in accordance with standard electrical rating systems, these heaters are tested to be moisture and explosion resistant.

Tubular heating elements, the most versatile of all types, are used for practically the entire range of electric resistance heating applications.  The metal sheath material and the proper size resistance wire for the heating element are carefully chosen and verified by computer calculations to insure the longest service life possible.

The nickel/chromium resistor wire is then fusion welded to a terminal pin to assure a positive connection. It is centered in the metal sheath and insulated with high quality magnesium oxide, (MgO). The MgO is tightly compacted around the coil and acts as an electrical insulator. The material rapidly conducts the heat from the coiled resistor to the metal sheath and puts the heat where it is required.
